"Gideon Jay Fairchild died at his home in West Oneonta, March 19th. Mr. Fairchild was born June 1, 1820, in the town of Butternuts. In 1855 he married Sarah A. Bennett who died in 1866, leaving three children. One, Mrs. B. A. Strait, survives him. The other two died in childhood. In 1868 he married Miss Angeline R. Perkins who survives him. Mr. Fairchild was a member of the Christian church. The funeral was held at his late home, Monday, the Rev. William Case officiating, assisted by the Rev. M. C. Miner.
