Susan Caroline (Fairchild) Cook was the daughter of John Fairchild and Lucy Kitchell, natives of Morris County, New Jersey. She was the oldest of seven children, her siblings being Jane Ogden (Fairchild) Woodhouse, Edmund Russell Fairchild, Aaron Kitchell Fairchild, Lent Winchell Fairchild, Abraham Farrand Fairchild and Samuel Augustus Fairchild.
