Born in Franklin County, Virginia, Exoney (Oney aka Onie) was the daughter of Cary Elis and Olive Jane (Hancock) Crawford. She married Peter Faneuff a native of Tilbury, Ontario who came to Toledo a double cousin of the Faneuffs of Walbridge. She had a daughter Lee (Mrs. Howard Eugene Danner) who was on the scene prior to her marriage to Peter. Onie appears to be named for her maternal aunt, Exoney (Crawford) Smith.
