Lydia' father was Henry S. Field (1810–1862) and is confirmed to have been hanged as a Union sympathizer in Gainesville, Cooke County, Texas about 4 Oct. 1862 during the Civil War. Although there is research or family tradition that states that both Lydia's father AND husband William McCool were both victims of the Great Hanging at Gainesville at the time, documents show that a William McCool died of dysentery on 30 Aug 1864 at the Jefferson Barracks Military post that is located on the Mississippi River at Lemay, Missouri, south of St. Louis. If he was a victim of the Great Hanging at Gainesville, then the alternative death date for him is Nov 1862.

Lydia Clarice Field married three times. Her first husband was William A. McCool (as stated above), born about 1839 in Missouri; they married 17 Feb 1861 at Cooke County, Texas and had a child William H. McCool (1862–1937). Her second husband was William Tullis, born 1841 in Texas and died about 1866 (place or circumstance unknown); they married 30 Apr 1863 in Sherman, Grayson County, Texas and had a child Ms. Maretta Tullis, born in Texas anywhere between 1863 and 1867, and she died 18 Dec 1939 in Ward, Boulder County, Colorado.

Lydia's third marriage is supported by ample documentation, and this was to Robert Emmett Coulehan (1840–1908). They married on 20 Sep 1877 at Jackson County, Iowa and had "at least" two children who lived past infancy: Agnes Coulehan (1878–1956) and Luella Mary Virginia Coulehan (1886–1964).
