Dorothy Ellen "Dee" Figuli, age 102, died at Welcome Home Assisted Living in Redding, California on Sunday, April 26, 2015 where she had resided for the last two years.
Born March 17, 1913 in Cleveland, Ohio, she was the last survivor of a family of fifteen children born to Edward and Gertrude Schurdell.
She married Joseph John Figuli in 1946. He was the custodian at First Assembly of God church, first located in Cleveland and later in Lyndhurst, Ohio, where they first met and attended and served for over 30 years.
Dorothy was a graduate of Central Bible Institute in Springfield, Missouri and an ordained minister of the Assemblies of God. She pioneered a church in Fairfield, Ohio with her brother Paul Schurdell and taught Sunday School and led women's ministries for over 20 years. She served the WWII civilian corps as a clerk typist at the Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, and later was a Teaching Assistant at East Clark Elementary School in the Collinwood neighborhood of Cleveland.
She and her husband retired to Springfield, Missouri in 1977, where she continued to live after his death in 1978 until 2013 when she moved to Redding, California to be near her daughter. She was a member of Calvary Temple in Springfield, MO where she was known for her vibrant spirit, quick wit and service to others through prayer, fellowship and letters of support.
She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Louise Haight and son, David John Figuli, as well as four grandchildren, Michael Haight, Matthew Haight, Joshua Figuli and Keri Figuli and five great grandchildren.
She shares the final resting place of her husband at National Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri.
