MARQUETTE, Mich. - Robert Joseph Figuli, Sr., age 83, of Marquette, entered eternal life Sunday, March 18, 2012, at his home.

Born Aug. 13, 1928, in Ironwood, to Joseph and Yolanda Figuli, Bob was raised in Bessemer. He graduated from A.D. Johnston High School and then attended Northern Michigan University where he studied accounting.

On May 21, 1955, Bob married the former Constance 'Connie' Pospeck, and together they raised their family in Marquette.

One of Bob's passions was running. He began running in 1970 and in 2003, at 75, Bob completed his 100,000th mile. He logged enough miles over the years to have run around the Earth four times. He competed in 750 road, trail and snowshoe races, ran 84 marathons, and 70 ultra-marathons. For his accomplishments, Bob was a 2005 inductee in the Upper Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame.

Bob is survived by his children; Paul Figuli (the late Roberta Manitowabi and her son, Ryan of Sault Ste. Marie), Robert Figuli, Jr. of Marquette, daughters; Gail Figuli (Mark Maeder), of Gwinn, and Cathy Figuli, of California; and a special friend, Robert Ryan, of Marquette.
