POQUOSON - Waverly Elnora Firman Cook, 86, died Jan. 21, 2011. She was born Jan. 9, 1925, in Messick, now Poquoson.

She was a member of Poquoson Baptist Church and retired from Maida Development Co. in 1990 after many years of service. She was a beloved wife, the most dependable mother, and loving grandmother for all her family.

Mrs. Cook was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, Earnest Earl Cook in December 1991.

Also, preceded in death by her grandson, Raymond Shattuck; father, Waverly E. Firman; parents, Nora and Willie Firth; three brothers, William "Bill" Firth, Robert "Cut" Firth, and George Dennis Firth; two sisters, Corleda Myrl Shackelford and Dora Ann Winder; and a son-in-law, Jerry Campbell.

She is survived by her four daughters, Mary Louise Campbell of Pelzer, S. C., Sandra Earl Creasman and husband, Carroll of Newport News, Sylvia Jean Shattuck and husband, Paul of Lanexa, and Janice Lorraine Bee and husband, Stephen of Hampton; 12 grandchildren, Michael Hales, Curtis Hales, Darryl Hales, Russel Watson, Paul Shattuck Jr., Andrew Shattuck, Walter Shattuck, Donna Oltarzewski, Amy Brown, Rachel Welch, Paula Frantz and Sarah Bee; 20 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson, and other times at 66 Odd Road, Poquoson. A funeral service will be held at noon Tuesday, in the funeral home chapel by the Rev. Milford C. Rollins. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park, Hampton.
