BERTELSEN, VIRGINIA LEE, died May 8, 2012 in Tarpon Springs, FL.

She was the daughter of the late Marie Coleman and Martin Fitzgibbon. Virginia graduated from Holy Rosary Academy, St. Joseph School of Nursing and Kansas University, where she received her Physical Therapy Degree. She practiced Private Duty Nursing, then joined the army Nurse Corps as a lieutenant and saw action in the Pacific Theater during World War II. She was stationed on Tinian Island when the Enola Gay departed on its mission. Following her discharge from the service she was director of the PT Department at Jewish Hospital for over 20 years, when she and her husband retired and moved to Tarpon Springs, FL. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Svend "Bert" Bertelsen; and brother, Paul Fitzgibbon.

She is survived by her devoted sister, a niece, a nephew, two great-nieces, one great-nephew, and a great-great-niece, all of Louisville. She had two step-daughters, and one step-granddaughter.

Mrs. Bertelsen requested cremation. A memorial service will be held in Louisville at a later date.
