ALBERT LEA, Minn. — Charles Flanagan, 96, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006, at Thornecrest Retirement Center in Albert Lea.

The funeral service for Charles will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday,

Dec. 18, 2006, at Thornecrest Retirement Center Chapel in Albert Lea. Pastor John Bromeland will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to

7 p.m. Sunday at Bonnerup Funeral Service and one hour before service at the chapel. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Charles was born in Mankato, Minn., on Feb. 11, 1910, the son of George and Lulu (Cowles) Flanagan. He moved to Albert Lea in 1919 and went to school at Ramsey Elementary. He married Marguerite Mae McCrady on Aug. 15, 1931, in Albert Lea. She preceded him in death on Feb. 11, 1993.

He worked for Albert Lea Seed House and 171/2 years at Wilson Packing Co. while in Albert Lea. He moved to Winnebago, Minn., and owned a restaurant for two years before moving to Winona and working 22 years as a federal meat inspector. While working as a federal meat inspector, he worked in Winona; Mason City, Iowa;

El Paso, Texas; and Deming, N.M. He retired in 1972 from Deming and moved back to El Paso in 1974. In 1984 he moved to Thornecrest North in Albert Lea.

He served in WWII as a cook for the Seabees. He was a longtime member of United Methodist Church and a Sunday school teacher and Sunday school Superintendent.

He carried a lay speaker license from 1943 to 1985. He was a Scout Master for 171/2 years. Charles was a life member of the Masonic Lodge and the Odd Fellows. He enjoyed doing plastic canvas crafts and shared his talent with many friends and family. He won many blue ribbons on crafts he took to the fair.

He is survived by his son, Charles M. (Marlene) Flanagan of Winona; and a daughter, Sharon (Calvin) Golden of Hot Springs, Ark.; and grandsons, Daniel (Pam) Flanagan and David Flanagan; grandson-in-law, Brad McQuinn; great-grandsons, Brandon (Angela) McQuinn, Jason (Beth) McQuinn; great-granddaughters, Sarah McQuinn, Lydia Flanagan and Lauren Flanagan; great-great-grandson, Dominic McQuinn; step-grandchildren, Calvin Jr., Debbie Golden and Shirley (Gil) Garcia; stepgreat-grandson, Cody Golden; stepgreat-granddaughter, Terra Garcia; his sister, Caroline Troe of Albert Lea; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Marguerite; granddaughter, Terry Lyn (Flanagan) McQuinn; stepgranddaughter, Victoria Golden; five sisters; and four brothers.

Pallbearers will be his grandchildren and great-grandchildren
