Born Betsey Foote on 25 December 1778, in Arlington, Bennington County, Vermont, she was a daughter of John Foote and Ruth Searle. She married Elihu Bartlit on 15 August 1802 in Vermont, likely in Sunderland, Bennington County. She died 4 May 1816 in Jay, Essex County, New York. With Elihu, she had children: Statira, Maria, John Foote, Elizabeth "Betsy," Elihu Hall, Hannah Meigs, Samuel "Sam," and Adoniram. At least two of the children--and perhaps two others--died quite young.
