Mrs. Emma Allen

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Hesper Lutheran church for Mrs. Emma Allen, 92, who died Sunday evening at Green Lea Manor Nursing Home. The Rev. Bernhardt Polesky officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.

The former Emma Forde, she was born Jan 28, 1884, in Fillmore County, Minn., the daughter of John and Breta (Mestad) Forde. On Feb. 27, 1906, she married J. Thomas Allen of Hesper, Ia. They spent their married life farming in Winneshiek County, Ia., until 1950 when they moved to Hesper. Following the death of her husband on Nov. 2, 1967, she lived with her children until moving to the nursing home three and a half years ago.

Survivors are three sons, Irvin, Mabel; Lester, Decorah, Ia.; Vernon, Spring Grove; three daughters, Mrs. Bernice Henningsgaard, Mrs. Melvin(Doris) Newgard, Mabel, Mrs. Olaf (Esther) Henningsgaard, Emmet, Calif.; 13 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs Stella Peterson, Mabel.

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers. The Mengis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
