Shirley E. Bolon, 65, former teacher
Shirley E. Bolon, 65, an elementary school teacher at Lewiston for 21 years, died Wednesday at St. Joseph's Hospital of infirmities of age.
She retired from teaching at Lewiston schools two years ago. She had been a teacher here since 1953 when she moved to Lewiston from New Meadows, where she taught for three years. Her career began in 1937 after her family moved by covered wagon from La Cygne, Kans., to Checotah, Okla. She taught school while her family farmed.
Mrs. Bolon was born Oct. 28, 1916 at La Cygne, Kans., to Horace and Mary Freeman. She attended Checotah schools and graduated from Tahlequah college at Tahlequah, Okla., in 1937.
She married James Bolon in 1952 at Lewiston. He died in 1976.
Surviving her is a sister, Fern Bivins, of Checotah.
Graveside services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at Normal Hill Cemetery at Lewiston with Pastor Gary Sheets of the Clarkston Heights Fellowship church officiating. Malsom's Brower-Wann Funeral Home of Lewiston is in charge of the arrangements.
