Florence (Lilley) Fuchs, 97, of Newington, died peacefully on Monday (February 14, 2011) with family by her side.

Born in Hartford, she was a Newington resident for most of her life. She retired from the Newington Children's Hospital after many years of employment and took great pride in all the years she worked as a crossing guard for the Town of Newington. Florence was a member of St. Mary's Church, Newington. She had a real passion for baseball and was a die-hard Oakland A's fan.

Her survivors include her son and daughter-in-law Frank and Susan Fuchs of Windsor; her daughter and son-in-law Mary and Roger VanDerlip of Marlborough; her grandson and his wife Michael and Kristyn Turgeon; two great grandsons Maxwell and Brian, whom she adored; and several nieces and nephews.

Florence always believed that children make the world go 'round.

Her family would like to thank Dr. A. Patel, the Hartford Hospital Palliative Medicine Team and the staff on Bliss 5 East for the great care and kindness shown to Florence during her short stay. Her funeral service will private with a mass at St. Mary's Church and interment in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Memorial donations may be made to the Office of Radio & Television, Archdiocese of Hartford, 15 Peach Orchard Rd., Prospect, CT 06712.
