Mary E. Ames, 92, of Lancaster, passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at the Mennonite Home while surrounded by family.

She was the wife of the late Charles "Budd" S. Ames, who passed away in 2010. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Pauline (Sheridan) Gable.

Mary had worked in the Treasurer's Office at the Lancaster County Court House for 13 years. Prior to this, she had worked for several years at Garvins Dept. Store.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Lancaster.

Mary enjoyed traveling, gardening, and was an active volunteer at Lancaster Regional Medical Center and at the former Community Hospital of Lancaster. She was a member of the Lancaster County Shrine Club Oriental Band-Ayds, Silver Threads, and Guys and Dolls. Of all she enjoyed in life, her greatest love was that of her late husband and her family.

She is survived by her children: Patricia Ann married to Keith Perry of Millersville and Charles "Chip" S. II married to Jo Ellen Ames of Mount Joy; her 4 grandchildren, Brittany and Hilary Ames, and Christopher and Amy Perry; and by her beloved nieces, Kathy Fought and Nancy Sullivan. She was preceded in death by her great grandchild, Christopher Perry, and her sister, Dorothy Fought.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Swarr Run at the Mennonite Home for the great love and care that was given to Mary.

Friends will be received on Thursday, June 26, 2014 from 10-11 AM at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 414 E. King St., Lancaster, PA, with the Funeral Service to follow at 11 AM. Interment in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery.
