Daniel L. Gades was born on June 26, 1946 in Glenwood, Minnesota to Lorenz and Pearl (Dietz) Gades. He graduated from Glenwood High School in 1964 and then graduated from Moorhead State University with a degree in mathematics. After graduation he taught school in Lake Crystal for one year. He married Peggy Neumann on July 12, 1969 in Alexandria, Minnesota. He then served in the U.S. Navy for six years. He was assigned to the USS Paiute, an ocean-faring fleet tug that traveled throughout Europe lending support to Navy ships. Following his honorable discharge, he and his wife moved to Waseca and he was employed at E.F. Johnson Co. for about thirty years. He then worked at ADC Telecommunications in Shakopee followed by EI Microcircuits in Mankato until retiring in 2011. He cherished the many friendships he made over the years. Through the years, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, athletics, listening to his wife play piano, and actively supported the Waseca Marching Jays music program. In addition, he was a member of an inventors group called MinnVentions. One of his inventions was the Horn Dazzler light that the Waseca band uses to illuminate their instruments while performing. He was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waseca, having served on numerous boards and committees.
