Philippine Insurrection Medal of Honor Recipient. He was issued the award on November 21, 1899 for his actions as a gunner's mate 3rd class while serving with the US Navy during the Philippine-American War. The son of Scottish immigrants, he joined the US Navy prior to the Spanish-American War and remained in service through World War I, and was discharged at the rank of quartermaster 3rd class. His Medal of Honor citation reads: "The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Gunner's Mate Third Class Robert Galbraith, United States Navy, for extraordinary heroism and gallantry while under fire of the enemy at El Pardo, Cebu, Philippine Islands, 12 and 13 September 1899."
