Melinda Jane Garnsey was the daughter of Chester and Hannah Willard (Taylor) Garnsey, born 11 December 1811 at Cayuga Village, New York. She married Robert Chappell (1804-1875), a descendent of Wm. Brewster of the Mayflower, on 22 December 1829 at Rochester, New York. Melinda died in Kankakee, Illinois on the 8 April 1902.
The couple resided for many years in Piqua and Dayton, Ohio, where Robert was Deacon and class leader in the Methodist Episcopal Church for forty years.
