Shirley Ann Davis, 70, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 2, 2008, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette. Mrs. Davis was born September 6, 1937. She was a native of Dallas, Texas and was a long-time resident of Lafayette.

Momma always said "Tie a knot at the end of the rope and don't let go," whenever life got tough. Sunday I told her "ok Momma, you can let go now." As you can see, she was a memorable sight to behold. Now, at 70 and so many battles, her beauty was a sight to be seen. And heard. It was her wit, her fight and her heart that made her memorable to so many. She was blind, because the Lord and glaucoma took her sight years ago. But it was her insight, her sense of caring and her Texan originality helped others to see, to get better and to laugh. Sunday evening at six, her body took its last gasp at Lourdes hospital. Her daughter Tammy held her in a hug. Anita, her loving and caring daughter-in-law, cried softly by her side, and saw that last breath. Her son Robbie opened the Bible to a verse, that, like everything in God's plan, was perfect. Ecclesiastes 7, Wisdom, "A good name is better than fine perfume and the day of death better than the day of birth." For now Mom, was free to see, to run and to dance. She loved to dance, before lupus took its toll. Mom was crippled by a disease she started fighting in her 20s. With brittle and arthritic bones, she had four hip replacements and two shoulder replacements during the years after an automobile accident. She survived a brain aneurysm and surgery in 1977, learning how to talk and walk and live all over again. And then doing what God put on earth to do, be one of the greatest moms ever.

Yes, she is free to pull on Jesus and say look at my beautiful grandchildren from Robbie --Heather and Kristin Davis, one in finals to be a nurse, the other a sophomore at LSU. She sees her first grandson Brandon Guillot for first time since he was a baby and said "Maw Maw I love you big, big like the sky." She sees Brandon's beautiful wife Jenee for the first time...and great grandson -- seven month old Braxton.

Shirley will be remembered as a loving and caring daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Shirley is survived by two sons, Robert Davis and his wife Anita, of Lafayette, and Buddy Reynauld and his family, of Dallas, Texas; two daughters, Tammy Guillot and her husband Greg, of Church Point, and Debbie Rogers, of Oklahoma; grandchildren Heather and Christian Davis, of Lafayette, Brandon, Ryan, Jonathan, and Angel Guillot, of Church Point, and Stephanie, Kristi, and Steven Rogers, of Oklahoma; and one great-grandchild, infant Braxton Guillot.

She was preceded in death by her parents Vernon Love Garrison, of Mexia, Texas, and the former Francis Anderson, of Temple, Texas, and her beloved husband Edward "Eddie" Davis.

She survived a massive stroke three months ago and the nurses at Lourdes called her the "miracle lady." She will be missed at the Maison de Lafayette, where she was called "one of the characters."
