Florence Kathryn Boeding, 87, formerly of Manhattan, died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at her home in Kansas City, Kan.
She was born June 3, 1915, in the Coal Creek community south of Seneca, to William and Florence Grace Gaughan, and spent her early life in the Coal Creek community.
She graduated from Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic High School in Seneca and taught for six years at College Hill School in the Coal Creek community in Nemaha County.
She later became deputy treasurer of Nemaha County and was elected county treasurer in 1942 and 1944.
She moved in 1955 to Manhattan, where she lived for the next 45 years. She worked in the office of the Riley County treasurer and was a payroll administrator for Manhattan Public Schools for many years before she retired. She moved to Kansas City, Kan., in 2000.
She was a member of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Manhattan, the Altar Society at the church, Manhattan Country Club and several bridge clubs.
She was a volunteer at St. Mary's Hospital in Manhattan and the Seven Dolors Budget Shop. She had been a Scout and 4-H Club leader.
She married Marcellus "Sally" Boeding in 1943 in Seneca. He died in 1976.
Survivors include two sons, Tom Boeding, Kansas City, Kan., and Bill Boeding, Lenexa; a daughter, Colleen Boeding, Torrance, Calif.; two brothers, Robert Gaughan, Leawood, and Wilbur Gaughan, Phoenix; a sister, Rita Campfield, Angels Camp, Calif.; and three grandsons.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Manhattan. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery in Seneca, KS
