Charlotte Doris Barth, 77, Pierre, died July 29, 2014 at Avera St. Mary's Transitional Care Unit in Pierre. Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 1, at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Dan Bader officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery.

Charlotte Barth was born January 17, 1937 to Alvin Geist and Anna Trefz in Tolstoy, SD where she was raised on the farm and attended public school. She graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1955. That summer she enrolled at Northern State Teacher's College in Aberdeen and graduated in 1957.

Charlotte married Ernie Barth in Tolstoy on Groundhog's Day, February 2, 1958. They lived in Tolstoy, Mobridge and Artesian before finally settling in Pierre in 1970 where she lived the rest of her life. They were blessed with 4 children – two boys and two girls – the boys older and the girls younger, just what Charlotte always wanted.

One of Charlotte's dreams was to open a Christian bookstore and she accomplished this goal when Gospel Gardens opened in downtown Pierre in 1978. After the bookstore closed she began a career working for Dr. Lloyd Johnson as the office manager and worked there for 22 years until her retirement.

Charlotte was very creative and musically talented. She loved doing crafts and was always looking for something new to make for the people she loved. She was an excellent cook and loved trying new recipes. Everything always tasted better at her house. Charlotte was a perfect grandma. Her grandchildren will remember all the holidays and other events she made special like back-to-school parties and Easter egg hunts in her yard. Charlotte began playing the piano in the 7th grade and enjoyed playing throughout the rest of her life. She enjoyed playing the piano for the monthly worship services at Lincoln Apartments where she and Ernie lived.

So grateful for sharing Charlotte's life are Ernie, her husband of 56 years; two sons: Perry (Susie) Barth of Omaha, Nebraska and Randy (Donna) Barth of Pierre; two daughters: Vicki (Steve) Likness of Pierre and Patti (Mark) Broer of Rapid City; her six grandchildren, Jessica (Brian) McVay, Natalie Likness, Mitchell Likness, Colton Hipple, Derek Hipple and Levi Broer; and her brother, Rowland Geist of Bismarck, North Dakota. Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents.

We love you so much, mom, and are so grateful for the ways you have filled our lives. We miss you terribly but are so thankful you are no longer sick. We look forward to seeing you again someday in heaven.
