Roma Louise Ahrenholz;Army Wife Roma Ahrenholz, loving wife of the late Col. Albert Francis Ahrenholz, died on December 30, 2011 in Augusta, GA., at the age of 92. Mrs. Ahrenholz was born in Staten Island, NY, the daughter of Anthony R. and Elsie Zill Geist. She lived and attended schools in Middletown, NY, and New York City. She was a registered nurse. After marrying Al Ahrenholz of Middletown, NY, she and her growing family accompanied him to Army assignments in the U. S., Korea, Japan, and Germany. When her husband retired in 1974 as Deputy Post Commander of Fort Gordon in Augusta, GA, they moved to Beaufort, SC, and lived there for 23 years. She was a president of the Lady's Island Garden Club, a founding member of Royal Pines Country Club and was a parishioner at Saint Peter Catholic Church. She and her husband spent their last years at Brandon Wilde, a retirement community in Evans, GA. She is survived by her four children, Judith A. Ahrenholz of Arlington, VA, Robert J. Ahrenholz and his wife Deborah of Greenwood Village, CO, Thomas A. Ahrenholz of Asheville, NC, and John M. Ahrenholz and his wife Karin of Jupiter, FL; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren; her brother-in-law Claude Ahrenholz and his wife Marjorie; and many nieces and nephews. Burial will be at Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort, SC, on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, any memorials be sent to St. Peter Catholic Church, 70 Lady's Island Dr., Beaufort, SC 29902, St. Teresa of Avila Church, 4921 Columbia Rd., Grovetown, GA 30813, or a hospice in your community.
