Older brother of Christian Fürchtegott Gellert. He was first buried in his brothers grave behind St John's church. When his brother was taken from their grave at Old St. John's cemetery (Alter Johannisfriedhof) to be put in a sarcophagus and to be reburied at St. John's church his bones were taken, too. From then on he shared the sarcophagus with Christian and his posthumous journey until they were buried at the South Cemetery in 1968.
