Ruby J. Doelling, 89, of Cottage Grove, died April 18 from a perforated ulcer.
She was born on March 17, 1917, in Monument, Kan., to Lee Wesley and Myrtle Hutton Gibson.
She grew up and attended school in Kansas and graduated from Monument High School.
She married Willie Henry Doelling on May 7, 1949, in Stevenson, Wash.
During World War II, she worked in the shipyards. She also worked in a cannery.
A homemaker, she loved the outdoors, including camping and hunting. She was active in sports and was an avid bowler. She was known for volunteering at the Special Olympics and for the love she had in caring for her family.
She was a member of the Moose Lodge No. 810 and No. 874, the Cottage Grove Hospital Auxiliary and The Get Together Club for Community Charity. She had lived in the Cottage Grove area for 51 years.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Don and Nancy Doelling from Chiloquin; two daughters and sons-in-law, Velvalea and Steve Smith of Springfield and Tanya and Donald Shuman of Cottage Grove; one sister, Wilda Rhodes of Oklahoma; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie; two brothers and four sisters.
A funeral service and interment were held Saturday at Fir Grove Cemetery in Cottage Grove, with Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.
