Irene Albino

A Mass and memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at St. Alice Catholic Church in Springfield, for Irene M. Albino of Springfield, who died Oct. 22 of age-related causes. She was 93.

She was born Dec. 26, 1917, in San Francisco, to George and Lilian Brown Gibson. She married Joseph Albino on July 20, 1938, in Aberdeen, Wash. He died in 1998.

She graduated from St. Mary's Academy in Winslow, Wash., and Gray's Harbor Junior College in Aberdeen. She opened the Irene Albino School of Dance in 1949 and taught tap and ballet to Lane County children for 35 years. After retiring, she formed the dance group, the Happy Hoofers, and performed throughout the area.

Survivors include a son, Tony, of Springfield; a daughter, Diane Albino of Marcola; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Cecelia Albino Lane, who died in 2002, and a son, John Albino, who died in 2003.
