"The following obituary notice was missent in the mails last week and did not arrive in time for publication. Charles G. Gilbert died at Gilbertsville, Thursday morning, April 28, 1910. For several years he had been in poor health, but able to be about and attend to business until last December, when he was taken with heart disease; sometimes a little better, then worse. His mind wandered and he suffered considerably thereby but when the end came, he passed peacefully away like one going quietly to sle(e)p. He was born May 4, 1832, in the town of Laurens, Otsego county. Had been active and successful in business, a good citizen and kind neighbor, a member of the Baptist church and while health permitted was present at the services. He is survived by his third wife, who was Mrs. Rachel Hastings Oliver. The funeral was at the residence Sunday, May 1st, the Rev. H. J. Smith officiating. Burial in Brookside cemetery.---Our Gilbertsville Reporter." ["The Otsego Farmer & Republican" (Cooperstown, NY), May 15, 1910, p. 7]
