Barbara June Gilbert Baker, 79, of North Syracuse, died Tuesday at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was an Ogdensburg native and resident of North Syracuse since 1961. She graduated from St. Lawrence State Hospital School of Nursing and was a registered nurse at the hospital. Mrs. Baker was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church, North Syracuse and an active participant in church sponsored activities especially using her sewing talents to make and donate infant clothes and blankets for those in need. She was always looking out for those less fortunate and kept them all in her daily prayers. Her husband of 56 years, Milton J. Baker, predeceased her on October 30, 2008. Surviving are her children, Kenneth (Pam) Baker of North Syracuse, Deborah (Edward) Rebstock of Fayetteville, Timothy and Michael Baker, both of Syracuse, and Diane Sherwood of North Syracuse; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; four sisters, Katie Groulx, Gail (Art) Coons, Helen Fountain and Mary Ester 'Angel' Whaley and several nieces and nephews. Services will be Friday at 9:30 a.m. at Fergerson Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church. Burial will be in Hermon Cemetery, Hermon. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home, 215 South Main Street, North Syracuse. Contributions may be made to L'Arche, 1232 Teall Ave., Syracuse 13206-3468.
