Obituary

Louise Ballard, 92 of Abilene, passed away at her home on Friday, August 28, 2015. A graveside service will be held on Monday, August 31, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Round Mound Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the University Church of Christ, 733 E.N. 16th Street and a visitation with the family will be held after the service in the Family Room, under the direction of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street.

Louise Giles Ballard was born on September 21, 1922 in Granbury, Texas to Charles and Effie Roland Giles. Louise and her sister Betty would grow up in Cleburne and Breckinridge until Louise settled in Abilene to attend Abilene Christian College. As a freshman, Louise was voted Freshman Favorite and later became active in the Ko Jo Kai social club. It was also at ACC where she met the man she would be married to for the next 58 years, Manly Ballard. Louise graduated in 1943 with a degree in Home Economics and married Manly on January 27, 1945. Following Manly’s discharge from the military, the couple moved to Abilene in February of 1946. Louise was a homemaker and loved keeping her home, raising her children and later, helping to raise her grandchildren. She was a family person.

Louise was very active with her church family as well, helping with many activities and cooking many meals. Manly served as an elder for the University Church of Christ for many years, and Louise took her role as an elder’s wife very seriously. She loved to travel, and as an insurance agent with State Farm, Manly and Louise traveled to many different places. Louise particularly loved seeing the fjords of Norway.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Effie Giles, her husband Manly Ballard and her sister Betty Sanders. She is survived by her sons, Brent Ballard and wife Cheryl of Abilene and David Ballard and wife Karen of Abilene; grandchildren Christopher Ballard and wife Chris of Colleyville, Texas, Wesley Ballard and wife Rene’ of Abilene, Amy Lopez of Houston and Gregory Ballard of Abilene; and four great grandchildren, Weston, Taylor, Kaden and Bailey Ballard.

The family would like to thank Kathy West, Teresa Newell and Juanita Gonzalez, Louise’s caregivers.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Louise’s name to Christian Homes, Christian Service Center, World Christian Broadcasting or the Texas International Bible Institute.
