Janell married 1) Edward Patrick Burns, Jr. (1930-2006), on July 15, 1950, in Lubbock, TX.

Janell & Ed later divorced.
Janell married 2) Billy Alexander (1936-2008) on Nov. 3, 1979, in Lubbock, TX. No children. Billy & Janell ran their CPA business together and loved each other dearly. They prepared our tax returns for decades. In later life, they enjoyed traveling the country in their RV. I am so glad they found each other.

Joyce Janell Burns Alexander, 82, of Rockwall, Texas, peacefully slipped into the arms of the Lord on Feb. 4, 2017. She was born on May 3, 1934, in Lubbock, TX, to Russell and Lenora Hess Giles. Janell spent the majority of her life in the west Texas area, where she not only served as a homemaker but ambitiously pursued several career fields.
After training as a bookkeeper, she moved quickly into health care management and ultimately owned and operated nursing homes in Buffalo, Texas and Lubbock. After marrying Bill Alexander, she renewed her interest in accounting and assisted him in his CPA practice. Janell was active in the American Business Women's Association and was very involved in numerous activities at the United Methodist Church.
After Bill's death, Janell relocated to Rockwall to be closer to family and quickly became involved in activities at First United Methodist Church of Rockwall. She also was an active member of Women of the Word, United Methodist Women and Friends of the Library. Of all Janell's accomplishments and activities, her passion and focus continued to be her faith and her family.
She is survived by three children: Ronnie Burns and wife Susan of Rockwall, Texas; Connie Burns Baird and husband, James of Dallas, Texas; and Vicki Burns DeVantier of Richardson, Texas; grandchildren: Kevin Burns, Jennifer Burns Flowers and husband, Roy, Joshua Baird and wife, Jen, Sara Baird Rhodes and husband, Anthony, Jennifer Baird, Rachel DeVantier Rice and husband Joe, Audra DeVantier, Heather Roberts, April Roberts, Misty Alexander Waits and husband Brian, Jerod Davis and wife Jessica and Jennifer Davis; six great-grandchildren and caregiver, Maria Garcia. Janell is preceded in death by her husband, Billy Alexander, and by her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017, at First United Methodist Church, 1200 E. Yellow Jacket Ln., Rockwall, TX, with Dr. Joe Pool officiating. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 8, in Resthaven Cemetery, 5740 19th Street, Lubbock, TX. The family will receive friends Monday evening at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Greater Dallas or First United Methodist Church, Rockwall, TX.
