Prison officials immediately after the two killings put in force the strictest possible disciplinary measures and put double and triple guard forces on patrol in a desperate effort to avert a threatened wholesale race battle that would involve hundreds of prisoners.
The prison is absolutely closed to visitors, and all entertainments and religious meetings, that would bring a number of convicts together have been summarily called off.
