Maria "Rena" Gomez Aliga, 54, of Vallejo passed away at her home after a brief illness on Saturday, October 9, 2004 with her family by her side.
Rena was born on September 11, 1950 in Carmel-by-the-Sea, and was the only child of Andres and Regina Gomez, one of the pioneer Filipino families who immigrated to Carmel from the Philippines. She spent her elementary years attending local schools, graduated from Carmel High School, Monterey Peninsula College, and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Business from San Francisco State University.
While in San Francisco, she met her husband, Ellie, and fell in love. They were married in 1971 at Carmel Mission Basilica. Rena began an outstanding professional career with Pacific Telephone/AT&T, a career that spanned 27 rewarding years of service.
During these years, Rena was an Account Executive, Communications and Technical Consultant, Project Manager, overseeing high profile corporate accounts, traveling the United States and representing the SF Region for national training symposiums, sales and marketing events, and trade shows for AT&T.
Her warm disposition, and friendly smile, blended with her incredible business savvy, was a dazzling combination that earned her constant recognition and awards for her spirit of commitment to her career. While leading this hectic, corporate life, she still managed to juggle the responsibilities of work and home, balancing her life being a loving wife, and dedicated mother of three. She retired from AT&T in 1998 at age 48.
Rena's early retirement enabled she and her husband to pursue their shared passion for travel. They joyfully organized and escorted group cruises and family reunions, perfecting her natural event planning skills. Her ability to bring people together, and fun loving personality was the life of any party, creating just the right mood that encouraged people to get up and dance the night away, she led the way.
Rena is survived by her mother, Regina Gomez; her husband of 31 years, Ellie; eldest son, Alan and his fiance, Natalie Concepcion of Vallejo; daughter, Lauren Aliga Bernardino, her husband, Roderick Bernardino, and (their daughter) Rena's only grandchild, Holly Marie, of Daly City, CA; youngest son, Darren of Vallejo; cousin Belyn Domingo Wilson and her husband, Timothy, and their son, Marcus, and cousin, Annette Domingo of Carmel, CA; cousin Cris Ilio and his wife, Tes, and their children, Christy and CJ of San Jose, CA; mother in-law, Flordelis Aliga; a multitude of brothers and sisters-in-laws throughout the United States and the Philippines who love her dearly: Rhodora and Napoleon Apolinario, Alfonso Jr. and Elenita Aliga, Annabelle and Gerardo Herrera, Perlita and Walt Jones, Norman and Olivia Aliga, Sue De La Cerna, Nestor and Rozzana Verder Aliga, Flordelis Madamba, 17 nephews, 12 nieces, 15 great nephews and nieces, and many, many godchildren.
The following services will be held in Vallejo: Rosary vigil at Skyview Memorial, 200 Rollingwood Drive on Tuesday, October 11, 7pm, followed by a funeral Mass on Wednesday, October 12, 10am at St. Basil's Catholic Church, 1225 Tuolumne Street.
Services in CARMEL: Thurs, Oct 14 - Visitation and Rosary Vigil Service, 7pm at Mission Mortuary, Monterey.
