Elizabeth J. "Libby" Arnold, 89, lifelong Manchester NH area resident, died October 3, 2010, at Bedford Hills Healthcare Center following a lengthy illness. She was born in Manchester on April 23, 1921, the daughter of Morris and Harriet (Wolfe) Goody. She graduated from Manchester Central High School, class of 1938B.
She worked for many years at the International Shoe Co. Tannery. She then attended Hesser Business College and received her business degree. Following her graduation she worked at the Pandora Factory Store, the credit department of Filene's Basement, and as a receptionist for Gayle Godzyk Real Estate in Manchester. She was also a volunteer at the Elliot Hospital. Some of her hobbies and interests were baking for her friends and grandchildren and embroidering tablecloths that she loved to give as gifts.
She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church until its closing and St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church. While a resident at Bedford Hills Nursing Care she had many friends, both residents and staff members, with whom she spent much time in the Activity Department where they not only enjoyed playing BINGO, but had many social activities as well as arts and crafts.
Members of her family include her daughter Gayle (Arnold) Godzyk and husband Robert, grandsons Scott and wife Nancy and Brian Godzyk and wife Cyndi Godzyk, and great-grandchildren Casey, Corey, Caley, and Ashley Godzyk, all of Manchester; sisters Nena (Goody) Deane of Manchester and Shirley (Goody) Lance of Westerly RI; brother Lewis Goody and wife Rita of Homosassa FL; brother-in-law Leo Argeropoulos of Manchester; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sisters Frances (Goody) Argeropoulos and Alice (Goody) Nelson, both of Manchester; and brother Leonard Goody of Somerville MA.
Calling hours are Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. at J.N. Boufford & Sons Funeral Home, 110 Bridge St., Manchester. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Pius X Church. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.
