Daphane Graham Morgan, age 91, passed away Saturday, November 9, 2013. She was born September 28, 1922 in Dublin, Georgia to Mr. and Mrs. John Dewey (Louise Ballard) Graham. She received degrees from Samford University, University of Montevallo, and University of Alabama, Birmingham. She taught school in Georgia, Virginia, and Alabama. In 1984 she retired after serving ten years as principal of Shades Mountain Elementary School. Mrs. Morgan was a member of Shades Mountain Baptist Church and a volunteer telephone counselor for the Crisis Center for seven years. Mrs. Morgan was a Freedom Foundation Award winner and worked with the Homewood Business and Professional Women's Club to establish Homewood's Avenue of Flags. She belonged to the Driftwood Garden Club and a number of square dance and ballroom dance clubs in Birmingham. She enjoyed playing bridge and belonged to several bridge clubs and groups. See was also an avid backyard birdwatcher and enjoyed feeding the birds.
Mrs. Morgan was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Hilliard Gresham Morgan Sr. She is survived by her three sons and their wives; John David (Susan Willers) Morgan, Hilliard Gresham (Pamela Nelson) Morgan, Jr. both of Adger, Alabama, and Gregory Glenn (Susan Stein) Morgan of Collierville, Tennessee, and seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She also welcomed into her family three "bonus" grandchildren and ten "bonus" great grandchildren through remarriages.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 13 at 10:00 AM at Ridout's Valley Chapel in Homewood with services following at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at Big Creek Cemetery in Adger, Alabama following the services
