MARIE A. BONELLO, of RED BANK Posted by the Asbury Park Press on 02/14/07MARIE A. BONELLO, of RED BANK, died peacefully Sunday, Feb. 11, at her home in Navesink Harbor, Red Bank, in the company of her loving family. She was born Nov. 22, 1913, in Philadelphia and lived most of her life in Long Branch and Red Bank. She was a talented pianist who was accepted at the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia, and began her career as a church organist and as a piano player in several silent movie theaters in the Philadelphia area. She later performed in several local establishments, including Wanamassa Tea Garden, Harry's Lobster House, Hofbrau House and Molly Pitcher Hotel. She had a large following; her fans said that she made the piano "sing" and that she caressed the keys. Music was a major part of her life, throughout her long years.

She was a member of and vice president of Musicians Local 399 of AF of L for several years. She was a civil servant who worked at Fort Monmouth as a supervisor and art illustrator for several years, and was a vice president of the local government employees union. Her passion was her family. She encouraged all four of her children to study hard, try to get the best education possible and, of course, to work diligently afterward. Her advice to her children was that they should be the first one in to work and the last one to leave. She took on a third job during the many years of her children's education process to help fund the enormous costs. She applied the same standards to her grandchildren and was extremely proud of them as they each graduated from college. An avid traveler and a lover of the ocean, she maintained a home on the ocean in Sea Bright and in Deerfield Beach, Fla., for many years. She also traveled to Europe and Asia several times and attended two educational Seminar At Sea cruises, which went around the world. She loved Bermuda and Hawaii and was remembered to say "When I die, I don't want to go to Heaven, but rather to Bermuda."

She was predeceased by her husband, L. Francis Bonello, in 1972; and her son Richard L. Bonello, in 1995. She is survived by her two sons, Francis V. Bonello of Long Branch, and John L. Bonello and his wife Debbie of Little Silver; her daughter, Carol B. Breitenbach and her husband Hubert L. Breitenbach Jr. of Manasquan; her daughter-in-law, Sarah C.
