"Joseph A. Granahan Sr., 90, a former Internal Revenue Service special agent and Democratic committeeman, died Saturday at Chestnut Hill Hospital. He lived in Glenside. A Pittston native, he served in the Navy during World War I. Mr. Granahan studied tax law at the University of Pittsburgh and Temple University. He was a special agent for the IRS for 36 years and a tax consultant for the City of Philadelphia for five years. He was past Grand Knight of the Santa Maria Council of the Knights of Columbus and served as president of the 25 Year Club of the IRS. He was a member of the Sandy Run Country Club and the Houston Post of the American Legion. Upon retirement, Mr. Granahan also was a Democratic committeeman for a decade in the city's Mount Airy section. Survivors: his wife, Mary; two sons, Joseph A. Jr. and John J.; two daughters, Sister Marilyn Granahan SSJ of Mount St. Joseph Academy, Flourtown, and Francine Christy; two brothers, Msgr. Leo A. Granahan and John V.; two sisters, Mary Murphy and Agnes Jordan, and 11 grandchildren. Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church in Glenside. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Cheltenham Township."
