Allan Joseph Grauer and Ada Estelle Smith were married April 16, 1917 in Niagara Falls, NY (Niagara County Marriage Record).
He was a self-employed dairy farmer for 65 years. The Grauer farmhouse, which was built by his great-grandfather and is still inhabited, is located at 1398 Saunders Settlement Rd (Rte 31), about 0.2 miles west of the intersection with Miller Rd., Town of Lewiston. He maintained a small herd of ponies, said to be in memory of his late daughter Muriel, and petting the ponies was a favorite recess-time activity of the children at the adjacent Colonial Village School. He retired in 1981, but continued to live in the farmhouse with a large number of resident cats for some time thereafter.
Allan Grauer was a thirty-second degree Mason, and for over 50 years he was a member of the Niagara Falls Lodge #81 of the International Order of Odd Fellows. He died in the Fairchild Manor Nursing Home, Lewiston, NY.
