Obituary from the Shreveport Times newspaper, Feb. 17, 1946, Sunday, pp. 1& 5:

C. B. Grayson Stricken on Golf Course – Had Been Active in Local Business and Civic Affairs

Charles B. Grayson, 52, of 508 Wilder Place, prominent Shreveport business man and for many years a leader in civic affairs, died yesterday afternoon about 4 o'clock while playing golf at the Shreveport Country Club.

Mr. Grayson was walking along the 11th fairway with three other players, having just driven his ball off the tee. He was a short distance from Marlin W. Drake, one of the foursome, who turned and saw him stooping over as if looking for his ball in a ditch.

Mr. Drake called to him and received no answer. Then he saw Mr. Grayson slump to the ground. Mr. Drake immediately walked over to him and found that he was unconscious. Dr. J. E. Knighton, who was at the club, was called and arrived about five minutes later, but Mr. Grayson apparently had died the moment he fell to the ground. Other players in the foursome were Marvin Anderson and R. L. Telford.

Death was attributed to a heart attack. Mr. Grayson had suffered from a heart ailment about five years ago, but was thought to have recovered fully. He appeared to have been in the best of health and good spirits yesterday.

Mr. Grayson was president and general manager of the Chain Battery and Automotive Supply Company, Inc., 726 Marshall Street, and general manager of Chain Battery and Automotive Supply, a separate company. He established this business shortly after he came to Shreveport 25 years ago.

An active worker in many civic enterprises, Mr. Grayson was a member of W. H. Booth Masonic Lodge, El Karubah Temple, the Lions Club, the American Legion, the 40 and 8 and the Country Club. He had served as chairman of the annual Shreveport Chamber of Commerce goodwill tour and was a leader in Chamber of Commerce affairs. He was a member of the Noel Memorial Methodist Church.

Mr. Grayson was born June 8, 1893 at Monroe.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Velma Davis Grayson; a son, Sam B. Grayson, a navy student at Stanford University, Palo Alto, Calif., who saw three years of overseas service; his mother, Mrs. May Grayson, Greenville, Miss.; and three sisters, Mrs. Anna Mae Caldwell and Mrs. Josephine Wetzel, both of Greenville, and Mrs. Zola Love, Baton Rouge.

Funeral services have not been arranged pending the arrival of the son from California.
