'Polly' was the eldest of four children born to Adam Treadwell Green b. Nov. 28, 1831 and d. Sept. 27, 1921 &
Harriet Hancock "Hattie" Jones b. Feb. 28, 1847 and d. Nov. 14, 1932.

On Aug. 31, 1898, Florence Elizabeth "Polly" Green married Fred Hathaway Bixby, son of John William Bixby and Susan Patterson Hathaway at Berkeley, Alameda Co., CA.

Florence Elizabeth "Polly" Green was educated and went to Anna Head School in Berkeley.

Memorial service will be Tuesday for Florence Green Bixby, 86, who died Wednesday at the famous Rancho Los Alamitos in the eastern part of the city where she had made her home since her marriage in 1898 to Fred Hathaway Bixby.
Her husband, a prominent rancher, civic leader and financier, died in 1952.
A founder of the Long Beach Day Nursery and its president for many years, Mrs. Bixby was a member of the Long Beach Ebell Club and the College Women's Club, a director of the Tichenor Orthopedic Hospital and Community Hospital.
Born Florence Elizabeth Green in San Francisco, she was a student at the University of California in Berkeley when she met her future husband.
THEY WERE married soon after their graduation and she came to Long Beach to spend a lifetime of active participation in the civic affairs of the growing town and preside over the household affairs of the great old rancho and the 18th-Century adobe residence.
While settlement grew around the rancho, Mrs. Bixby annually brought countless busloads of young school-children for visits. Some saw farm animals for the first time.
In Long Beach, her name and her work are commemorated in the Florence Bixby Elementary School at 5251 Stearns Street.
LAND ON THE BLUFF on the seaward side of Ocean Boulevard was donated to the city by Mrs. Bixby to assist the founding of the Long Beach Museum of Art near Bixby Park.
In Los Angeles she served on the board of trustees of the Southern California Symphony Association from 1943 to 1951 and was on the board of governors of the Los Angeles Art Museum from 1928 to 1953. She was a trustee also of Scripps College from 1931 to 1953.
Surviving are her son, Fred Hathaway Bixby Jr.; two daughters, Mrs. Preston (Katharine) Hotchkis and Mrs. Edgar L. (Elizabeth) Janeway;
eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
One daughter, Mrs. Robert C. (Deborah) Green, predeceased her.
MEMORIAL SERVICE will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Our Saviour's Episcopal Church, San Gabriel, with Dr. Ronald C. Molrine officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Today and Friday the body will lie in state at Peek Family Colonial Funeral Home, Midway City.
The family requested that contributions be made to Long Beach Day Nursery, 1548 Chestnut Ave.; Adelaide Tichenor Orthopedic Clinic, 1660 Termino Ave., or Southern California Symphony Association Endowment Fund, 427 W. Fifth St., Los Angeles 13.
