Nell Barnes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Owen Gregory, was born November 11, 1906 and departed this life September 10, 1952, being 45 years old. She was at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Barnes on Spann Hill at the time of her death. She had been in bad health only 3 months, but was able to do her housework.

She spent her childhood near Locketts Chapel and later moved to Beech Valley. She married Arlie Barnes in 1930 and lived in Indianapolis, Indiana for a short time. They returned to Monticello and made their home for several years. In 1940 they moved to Solida, Colo. They lived there 8 years, during which time Mr. Barnes served 3 years in the Army. They returned to Monticello in 1948.

She professed faith in Christ at the age of eleven and joined Rogers
Grove Baptist Church. She later moved her membership in Steubenville Baptist Church where it remained during the time she lived in Colorado. At the time of her death she belonged to Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, 2 sons, Reid and Arlie Owen, 1 daughter, Mrs. Curtis Thompson and 2 grandchildren, Danna Reid Barnes and Curtis Ray Thompson.

Funeral services were held at Mt. Zion Saturday, September 13, at 2:00 PM. by Rev. Frank Frogge. Burial was at Elk Spring Cemetery.

All members of her family were here for the funeral except her
oldest son, Reid who is on his way home from Korea and her only sister, Mrs. Robert Veltry, of Solida, Colorado.
