Mrs. Black was born June 17, 1907, in Mecklenburg County, daughter of the late William Mason and Alice Myrtle Black Griffith and was widow of Earl Clifford Black Sr.
Mrs. Black was a member of Kilgo United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Sunday school and former president of The Methodist Women. She served as dietician at Berryhill High School and later at The Methodist Children's Home in Winston-Salem, and formerly owned Shady Lawn Motel in Newland.
Survivors include two daughters-in-law, Grace Melton Black of Forest City and Belle Black Cole of Charlotte; four grandchildren, Earl Clifford Black III of Greensboro, Kathy Black Galyon of Chattanooga, TN, and David M. Black and Dawn Ellen Black of Lincolnton; a niece, Bobbie Watts; a nephew, Pete Griffith of Charlotte; and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Black was preceded in death by two sons, Earl Clifford Black Jr. and William McShane ''Mack'' Black.
