Ercole Grimaldi, Marquis de Baux, was the only son and heir apparent of Honoré II of Monaco, by his wife Ippolita Trivulzio.

He was fatally wounded when he handled a firearm incorrectly.

Ercole had married Maria Aurelia Spinola in 1641 and the union produced four children, including Louis Grimaldi, who became heir apparent when his father died.

Louis Grimaldi became Louis I of Monaco upon his grandfather's death in 1662. The Marquis de Baux is the direct ancestor of all subsequent Princes of Monaco.
