JACKSONVILLE — Graveside services for Dorothy Allen, 94, of Tyler are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 14, 2011 at Tyler Memorial Park with Pastor Keith Brown and family friend Fendley Tucker officiating under the direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home.
Mrs. Allen passed away on May 11, 2011 in Longview.
She was born on February 18, 1917 in the community of New Hope near Jacksonville to the late Melvin D. and Viola Sanford Grimes.
She graduated from New Hope High School. She was a member of Fair Park Baptist church and was retired from Brookshire Food Stores.
She lived in Tyler for 66 years before moving to Longview in 2010.
She was a loving caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother.
She married Bill Allen on October 20, 1940.
She was preceded in death by her husband in July 1995, sister Opal Anderson Ainsworth, brothers J. M. Grimes and W. D. Grimes.
She is survived by her son, Bobby J. Allen and wife Barbara of Longview; grandchildren Mike and Susan Allen of Longview, Cindy and Milton Bagley of Gilmer, Kim and Matt Comfort of Longview; sister and brother-in-law Chris and Oscar Smith of Jacksonville, brother and sister-in-law Cecil and Jeannie Grimes of Bristol, Virginia four great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and friends.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
