She was born June 26, 1915 in Faribault the daughter of Theodore and Julia (Dillon) Grundman. Maxine graduated from Faribault High School. She attended Miss Woods Kindergarten School, Minneapolis and Columbia University, New York City. She obtained her teaching degree from National College of Education in Evanston, IL. Maxine married Maurice M. Crowley June 17, 1950 at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Minneapolis.
She taught in the Owatonna Public School system for 41 years retiring in 1983. In retirement, she was a substitute teacher in Owatonna Public Schools and at St. Mary's School. Maxine was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Owatonna Women's Club, Domestic Science Club, Owatonna Retired Teachers, Steele County Historical Society, Little Theatre of Owatonna, Owatonna Arts Center, Owatonna Senior Center, National Education Association, Minnesota Education Association and Owatonna Education Association. Maxine had previously served as president and treasurer of Minnesota Kindergarten Association.
Maxine is survived by her nephew, Donald (and Kathy) Grundman of Lake City; nieces, Susan Grundman of Bemidji, Judy (and Gary) Peterson of Grand Marais and several grand nieces and grand nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother.
Visitation will be at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Tuesday from 10am to 11am. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at 11am at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Andrew Vogel officiating. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Owatonna.
