OTTAWA- Services will be Monday at the Ottawa University Chapel here for Earl Albert Guist, 60, Ottawa, who died shortly after arrival at a hospital here Thursday night. He had a heart ailment. He was manager of the H.D. Lee Plant at Ottawa and had served in 1966 as president of the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce.

He was born March 22, 1912 at Cherryvale in Montgomery County, the son of Mr. & Mrs. James Earl Guist, and lived at Ottawa since 1944. He was graduated from the School of business at the University of Kansas where he was affiliated with Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.

He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of Westminster United Presbyterian Church at Ottawa and was past exalted ruler of Elks Lodge No. 803 at Ottawa. He was past president of the Ottawa Country Club. He was a member of the Ottawa Industrial Development Corp. and was a former member of the Ottawa Planning Commission.

He was married to Edwena E. Kuhlmann Oct. 25, 1942 at Emporia. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Linda Cain, Ottawa; a son, James Earl Guist, at home; his mother, Mrs. Phila Guist, Lawrence; 2 sisters, Mrs. Edith Rhoades and Frances Guist, both of Lawrence; and 3 grandchildren.

Elks Lodge Not. 803 will conduct graveside services at highland Cemetery at Ottawa. Mr. Guist will lie in state at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home until time of services.
