Erna Henrietta Brucher, 89, passed away April 20, 2016, with her family by her side. Erna was born April 15, 1927, to the late Emil and Cora (Delo) Hafeman on the family farm in Wallace, MI.

Erna was baptized May 15, 1927 in her home, confirmed November 23, 1941 at St. Marks Evangelical Lutheran Church, Carbondale, MI by Pastor Henry A. Hopp.

On October 1, 1946, she married John F. Brucher of Wallace in Menominee, Mich. He preceded her in death on July 21, 1994.

Erna was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Women’s Home Missionary. She served as a member and volunteer of the VFW Auxiliary; she was also a member of the Retired and Senior Volunteers of Michigan volunteering at the Menominee Heritage Historical Museum. Erna was employed with the Menominee Public School District’s hot lunch program for 23 years. Erna and John enjoyed many years camping at Pentoga Park with family and friends. Erna further enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her three daughters: Judy (Dick) Pier of Marinette, WI; Malinda Burby of Menominee, MI and Karen (Jeff) Verkuilen of Howard, WI;
six grandchildren: Lee (Ragen) Pier of Madison, WI; Kelly (Paul) Poshyvanyk of Chicago, IL; Jerry (Shanna) Burby of Muskego, WI; Brian Burby of Menominee, MI; John Verkuilen of Boston, MA and Katie Verkuilen of Milwaukee, WI;
six great-grandchildren: Trevor and Nathan Burby, Alexander and Meredith Pier, and Leo and Oscar Poshyvanyk;
and one sister, Irene (Al) Chaltry of Menominee, MI;
nieces and nephews.

Erna was preceded in death by her husband, John; parents; and six brothers: Eric and Rudy Hafeman; and half brothers Art, Edgar, Robert and Norman Kessler.

Family and friends may call at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 613 11th Avenue, Menominee, on Sunday, April 24, 2016 after 2 p.m. until time of Funeral Service at 4 p.m. with Pastor Paul Cole officiating.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
