Mary Sue Agnew, 92, of 485 John Baker Road, Fieldale, died Saturday, August 2, 2003 at Stanleytown Health Care. A native of Henry County, she was born Jan. 18, 1911, a daughter of the late Sam Jake Hairston and the late Hannah Starling Hairston.

She lived in Henry County all of her life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bishop James T. Agnew Sr.; a sister, Mattie Craighead; and four brothers, Rev. Sam H. Hairston, Everett D. Hairston, Charlie Hairston, and Daniel Hairston.

She was a housewife and attended St. James Holiness Church, serving with the home mission society and the missionary board.

Surviving are three sons, Frank R. Agnew and Elder James T. Agnew Jr., both of Fieldale, Elder Bobby J. Agnew of Martinsville; two daughters, Patricia Agnew Wimbush of Bassett and Gwendolyn Agnew Moore of Greensboro, N.C.; three sisters, Lillia J. Prunty, Georgia H. Hairston, and Louise H. Hairston, all of Fieldale; a brother, John L. Hairston of Fieldale; 18 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. James Holiness Church in Fieldale with Bishops James France, McDaniel Preston, and Tyrone Hunter officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends one-half hour prior to the funeral. The body will be at Hairston Funeral Home.
