ROANOKE, Ala. -- Mr. Charlie Hairston, 57, of Roanoke died Friday, Sept. 21, 2001 at Randolph Medical Center in Roanoke.

Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 2 p.m. (CDT) at First Baptist Church, 549 Riley St. in Roanoke with the Rev. Elijah Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in the East Roanoke Cemetery in Roanoke.

Mr. Hairston is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Hairston of Roanoke; his daughter, Cassandra Hairston of Roanoke; two sons, Christopher Bo Hairston of Hall County, Ga., and Charlie Hairston of Roanoke; 10 sisters, Rosie L. Dardy and Annie R. Johnson, both of West Point, Nancy L. Varner and Mary H. Jackson, both of Lanett, Lizzie M. Hubbard of LaGrange, Emma R. Hubbard of Ypsilanti, Mich., Mattie R. Johnson of Atlanta, Ga., Evelyn of New Jersey, Evelyn Lee of Boston, Mass., and Dorothy of New Jersey; two brothers, Arthur L. Hairston of Boston, Mass., and Jessie R. Hairston of Ypsilanti, Mich.; three grandchildren, Quillan Hairston, Jessica Hairston and Brittany Kirk, all of Roanoke; his father and mother-in-law, the Rev. Alfred and Ella Hill of Roanoke; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Mr. Hairston was preceded in death by two brothers, John Willie Hairston Sr. and Brady Hairston, and four grandchildren. He was the son of the late Brady Tom Hairston, and his mother, Ollie Lee Atkinson Hairston.

The family will receive friends at the home of the deceased, 410 Ave. A in Roanoke. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service Wednesday.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, Sept. 25 from noon until 7 p.m. (CDT) at Silmon Mortuary in Roanoke.
