Daughter of the late Robert Alexander and Zenobia Cox Haislip, she was preceded in death by two brothers, R.A. Haislip and Tom Haislip. She was an active member of Bethel Baptist Church for 50 years. She was a graduate of Meredith College and received her Master's Degree from East Carolina University. She was survived by her husband, John Robert "Bob" Bowers (married on June 30, 1956), daughters, Cindy Bowers Tripp and her husband Todd; Debbie Bowers Ladd and her husband Robert; Lisa Bowers Gaul and her hsuband Rusty; sisters, Nancy Haislip Walters and Ruth Haislip Roberson; brother, Bryan Haislip; sister-in-law, Frances Haislip; brothers-in-aw, Russell Roberson and Graham Bowers; nine grandchildren, Laura, Madeline and John Tripp, Sarah, Rebecca and Bert Ladd, and Jess, Sam and Grey Gaul. Her funeral was held at Bethel Baptist Church on October 1, 2009, with The Rev. Heath Faircloth and The Rev. June Ellen Haislip officiating.
