DRACUT -- Germaine (Hall) Bauer, beloved wife of Peter M. Bauer, Jr., died peacefully on Thursday morning, surrounded by several members of her family at D'Youville Center for Advanced Therapy in Lowell.

Germaine was born in Lowell, Massachusetts on June 21, 1933, the youngest of five girls to the late George and Irene (Gauthier) Hall. On Nov. 27, 1952 she married Peter M. Bauer, Jr. with whom she would have celebrated her 60th wedding anniversary. The couple moved to their Lakeview Avenue home in 1954, and raised three children.

Germaine was employed at Cadet Cleaners in Dracut for 30 years. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, especially their occasional trips to the Mohegan Sun and in recent years the couple spent their winters in Surprise, AZ.

"Nana's" house in Dracut was always the center of activity. It was the gathering place, the focal point -- not only for family but for a countless number of friends. Just like her heart, her door was always open.

Germaine had a true servant's heart and went out of her way to meet the needs of others less fortunate. She was always the last one to sit at the table to eat but she seldom lost her smile or her sharp sense of humor. Her generosity not only extended to her husband and children, but to their friends as well. That trait carried over to her grandchildren and their friends and to her great-grandchildren and their friends.

Germaine will be sadly missed in the years to come.

In addition to her husband, Peter, she leaves behind a son, Peter Bauer III and his wife, Doris (Guerette) of Nashua, NH; and two daughters, Diane Shaughnessey and her husband, Dennis of Dracut, and Donna Nicholaou of Salem, NH. She also leaves her 10 grandchildren; and nine living great-grandchildren.

She is survived by two sisters, Cecile (Hall) Maille of Nashua, NH, and Jeannette (Hall) Doucette of Tyngsboro, MA. She is predeceased by two sisters, Doris (Hall) Milhomme and Rita (Hall) Neault.

She is also predeceased by her great-granddaughter,, Breanna Tamir, who died in 2006, and her beloved son-in-law, Daniel Nicholaou, who died in 1997.
