Leona Halsey Alvis, 86 of Ranch MHP, Princeton died Saturday, May 16, 2009 at the Princeton community Hospital. Born on November 29, 1922 in Pierpoint, she was the daughter of the late Everett McCoy and Brookie Tilley Halsey.

Mrs. Alvis was a 1941 graduate of Spanishburg High School and was previously employed by the Maidenform in Princeton. She was a member of the Mt. Jackson Baptist church in Athens.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Billie Joe Alvis, two brothers, Eldon and Denby Halsey and one sister Garnette Crotty.

Survivors include Her son Russell J. Alvis of Princeton Brother Thomas L. Halsey of Princeton Brothers-in-law Kelly Alvis and wife Lavoy of Athens Ted Alvis and wife Kyra and Gary Alvis both of Princeton Sister-in-law Betty Halsey of Detroit, MI,

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 A.M. Tues., May 19, 2009 from the Burns Wornal chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor charlie Rice and Eugene Harmon officiating. Burial will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton.

Serving as pallbearers will be family and friends. Friends may visit with the family Monday from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
