James T. Hare Sr., 76, of the the 6400 block of Bridle Way, died Dec. 21, 1996.
Born in Chowan County, N.C., and a longtime resident of Norfolk, he was the widower of Virginia Creech Hare. He was a retired mechanical superintendent for General Foam and Plastic Co. Mr. Hare was a member of South Norfolk Congregational Christian Church, Norfolk Sports Club and was a veteran of World War II, having served in both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include a son, James T. Hare Jr. of Southern Shores, N.C.; four sisters, Zelma Jones of Suffolk, Virginia Leigh Klemm of Clarksville, Va., Shirley Taylor of Virginia Beach and Evelyn Umphlette of Hampton; four brothers, Furman Hare of Norfolk, Gurney Hare of Blue Springs, Mo., Ernest Hare of Puyallup, Wash., and Johnny Hare of Virginia Beach. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Kaiser.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in South Norfolk Congregational Christian Church by the Rev. Amos Eby. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the residence. Graham Funeral Home, South Norfolk Chapel, is handling arrangements.
